Sachem North Model United Nations
Sachem North’s Model United Nations club attended a conference this past past weekend (November 17th and 18th) at Patchogue Medford High School. They participated in a simulation of a debate of the United Nations, discussing topics such as Water Accessibility, Mental Health of Young People and Rising Sea Levels, among many others. The students gained experience in public speaking, diplomacy, debate and problem solving. Those who participated also further moved towards the goal of becoming a true global citizen. Students each went to a podium and discussed the views of the country they were represented and then discussed possible solutions through debate.
Student participation was very successful, most delegates passed resolutions of their own making. SNMUN also took home some awards for the night, Nobonita Paul won a Honorable Mention for Best Delegate and Furquan Qureshi and Miranda Garcia-Cassani both won Best Position Paper Awards. The club has similar goals looking towards the future for their next conference at Plainview Old Bethpage JFK High School on December 15th and 16th.
