Sachem North’s Leo club  hosted its annual Saint Baldrick’s Day event “Shaves for the Brave” on March 16, 2018, to help the St. Baldrick’s Foundation raise money to help fund childhood cancer research.  Saint Baldrick’s Foundation is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1999 by 3 friends–Tim Kenny, John Bender, and Enda McDonnell–looking to give back to their community by challenging one another to see who could raise the most money. The idea: shave their heads for charity. So on St. Patrick’s Day in 2000, they held their first event at Jim Brady’s pub in Manhatten. They shaved 19 heads and raised $104,000 to donate to the Children’s Oncology Group. From that one event has sparked a nationwide and now international effort to eradicate childhood cancer by funding new therapies and treatments. On March 16, 2018, many of Sachem North’s students, staff, and faculty  shaved their heads and raised almost $7,000 to find a cure. Well done to all who participated and thank you for caring and contributing.
